The 7th HDBank Cup International Open Chess Tournament 2017 was held in Ho Chi Minh City from March 12 to March 17. The tournament was divided into two categories, the Masters and Challenge categories.103 chess wizards participated in the six-day tournament in the Masters categoryand our Southeast Asian wood pushers were among of them. Chess players from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and host Vietnam competed against chess enthusiasts from 19 other countries.Leading Southeast Asia was Quang Liem Le from Vietnam who garnered a total score of 7 points and the champion of this tournament. The last round win of Quang Liem Le against Ukraine's Stanislav Bogdanovich took him to the top of the ranking.Vietnam made a strong campaign as four of its chess players made it to the top 10. While Philippines highest rank was courtesy of John Paul Gomez who earned 5.5 total points and placed 20th.Below were the ranking of our SEA chess players who participated in the tournament with its corresponding final total points.
