The 7th South East Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2017 took place in from March 14 to 18. Athletes from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand competed in this regional championships.
In the artistic category, Muhammad Afifi Nordin of Malaysia won gold medal in the men's singles with 468 points. He was followed by Singapore's Muhammad Iqbal Bin Abdul Rahman for silver medal and Brunei's Muhd Imanuddin Bin Ahmad who settled for bronze medal.
In the women's singles event, the gold medal went to Nurzuhaira Binti Mohd Yazid of Singapore. The silver and bronze were given to Thailand's Salini Mamu and Brunei's Norleyarmah Binti Haji Raya respectively.
In men's double artistic event, the Malaysian duo of Mohd Taqiyuddin Hamid and Rosli in Mohd Sharif took the gold medal. The silver medal went to Vu Quoc Viet and Nguuyen Xuan Thanh of Vietnam while bronze medal was awarded to Singapore's Muhammad Haziq Bin Zainal Abidin and his partner Nujaid Hasif Bin Zainal Abidin.
For women's double artistic event, another Malaysian tandem captured the top prize. It was the tandem of Nor Hamizah Abu Hassan and Nur Syazreen A. Malik who got the highest mark points. They were followed by Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and Nguyen Thu Huyen who got the silver medal. The bronze medal went to Nur Azlyana bt Ismail and Nurhanishah bt Syahrudin of Singapore.
At the end of the tournament, Malaysia won the over-all championship with 9 gold medals, 3 silvers ans 4 bronze medals. Vietnam came second with 5 golds, 5 silvers and 7 bronze medals.
Singapore also made an impressive output at the tournament with 4 golds, 6 silvers, and 4 bronzes. They placed third over-all. The four gold medals of Singapore came from Shakir Juanda, Sheikh Farhan, Nurul Suhaila, and Nurzuhairah Yazid.
