Malaysia, Philippines at the World Figure Skating Championships 2017

The 2017 World Figure Skating Championships was recently held at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland. 

Two of the best figure skaters of Southeast Asia competed in the men's event. These were  Julian Zhi Jie Yee of Malaysia and 2014 Olympian Michael Christian Martinez of the Philippines. 

Both skaters entered the free skating event after they landed in the top 24 in the short program. 

In the short program, Malaysia's Yee ranked 23rd out of 36 competitors with the score of 69.74 points. While Martinez scored 69.32 and ranked 24th enough to advance for the free skating event. 

The two skaters settled at the bottom ranking in the free skating. Yee scored 144.25 to rank him 22nd while Martinez scored 127.47 and placed 24th over-all. 

Both Yee and Martinez competed at the Asian Winter Games 2017 in Sapporo last February and both skaters are expected to go head to head battle in the 2017 Southeast Asian Game in Kuala Lumpur this coming August. 
Meanwhile, there is no confirmation or announcement of qualifying at the 2018 Winter Olympics for both skaters.
